Conference Faculty

Karen Beverly-Ducker serves as ASHA’s Director of Multicultural Resources. Her areas of responsibility include identifying and addressing the influence of cultural and linguistic differences on professional service delivery and professional preparation. In addition, she responds to the needs and concerns of ASHA members and CSD students with disabilities.

Tammy Brown is a clinical audiologist with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, with over twenty years of experience. She is Vice Chair of the Ohio Board of SLP and Audiology. She has testified before the Ohio House Committee on Military and Veteran’s Affairs, and presents on topics related to ethics and patient abandonment.

Heather Bupp is the Director of Ethics at ASHA. She oversees the association’s ethics program and provides ethical guidance to ASHA members, the professions, and the public. Heather is a graduate of Washington College of Law at American University, Washington, D.C. She received her undergraduate degree from Penn State University.

Colmon Elridge is the Director of The Council of State Governments National Center for Interstate Compacts. He works collaboratively with state governments and private industry to develop solutions to some of America’s most challenging issues and has spearheaded transformative compacts aimed at improving the practice of and accessibility of health care and education across state lines.

Nahale Freeland Kalfas is a solo-practitioner specializing in Administrative Law. For the past nine years, she has been responsible for prosecutorial hearings, settlements, rulemaking, and legislative matters as General Counsel for the North Carolina Board of Examiners for SLP and Audiology. She received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law.

Todd Philbrick joined ASHA as the Director of Certification in 2014, after spending over 15 years with nonprofit healthcare certification and/or membership associations. Todd holds a BS in business administration, the Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification, and the Credentialing Specialist certificate.

Kathy Pruner is the Client Relations Director at Educational Testing Service (ETS). She provides assistance to ASHA, state departments of education, state boards of audiology/SLP, institutions of higher education, and candidates. Kathy has an M.B.A. from LaSalle University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Penn State University.

Vickie Hinzman Pullins is an SLP and owner of LinguaCare Associates, Inc. and Integrated Speech Solutions, Inc. in West Virginia. She casts the vision for growth and change in both companies. Vickie is on the WV Board of Examiners for SLP and Audiologists, the Board of Directors for NCSB, and the ASHA Advisory Council.

Theresa Rodgers is an SLP and special education consultant with more than 30 years’ experience in schools including as a special education supervisor. A former government CAO, she is ASHA’s Board of Ethics Vice-Chair, a LBESPA member, served as President of CSAP, LSHA, and NCSB, and was an ASHA VP (2012-2014).

Barbara Rodriguez is Professor and Chairperson in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. Dr. Rodriguez’s research and teaching interests are in bilingual language acquisition, bilingual language assessment, and multicultural considerations in speech-language pathology.

Ann Stehr has served as General Counsel to the Louisiana Board of Examiners for SLP and Audiology for over twenty years. She received her law degree from Southern University Law Center and her undergraduate and Master’s of Social Work degrees from Louisiana State University. Ayn is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Law at Louisiana State University.

Gregg Thornton is the Executive Director of the Ohio Board of SLP and Audiology, where he manages board operations and executes all board directives. He has over 25 years of experience in state government and as a licensed attorney in the area of administrative law and regulations in health related occupations.

Glenn Waguespack, a private practice audiologist and Chair of the Louisiana licensure board, is NCSB Editor and served two terms as NCSB President. A member of the ASHA Board of Ethics, he is past Chair of the ASHA CEB and the CAC, and was audiology Vice-Chair for the CFCC.
