Learner Outcomes

  • Delineate key components of laws, rules and regulations that govern the practice of SLP and Audiology.
  • Describe elements of the disciplinary process and application to the professions through participation in a mock hearing.
  • Review complaints describing potential violations by SLPs and audiologists or SLP assistants to determine appropriate action.
  • Draft a consent order and agreement based on an audiologist’s or SLP’s violation of the law, rules and/or code of ethics.
  • Engage in the process utilized in examining ethics violations as well as in reporting to the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB).

Faculty

Theresa Rodgers is a Speech Pathologist and special education consultant with more than 30 years experience in the schools including as a special education supervisor. She is a former government CAO, President-Elect for ASHA, Chair of ASHA’s Board of Ethics, and a LBESPA member. She is past president of CSAP, LSHA and NCSB and was an ASHA VP (2012-2014).

Ayn Stehr has served as General Counsel to the Louisiana Board of Examiners for SLP and Audiology for over 20 years. She received her law degree from Southern University Law Center and her undergraduate and Master’s of social work degrees from Louisiana State University. Ayn is also an adjunct clinical professor of law at Louisiana State University.

Glenn Waguespack is a private practice audiologist, member of the Louisiana Board of Examiners for SLP and Audiology, NCSB editor and served two terms as NCSB President. He is a member of the ASHA Board of Ethics, past Chair of the ASHA CEB and CAA and was audiology Vice Chair for the ASHA CFCC. Glenn has provided ethics training for licensure board members as a part of the NCSB program for +10 years.
