History of Legislation

* Minnesota initially regulated through registration but enacted licensure in 2003.
** Colorado also initially regulated audiology through registration but enacted licensure in 2007.
*** In 1996, Washington passed legislation for voluntary licensure and in 2002, for mandatory licensure.
**** The law enacting regulation of SLP through certification in Colorado was enacted in 2012.
***** Separate Practice Acts were enacted September 1, 2015 for SLPs, and for Audiologists & Hearing Aid Dispensers, with responsibility transferring from the Agency of Education to the Secretary of State’s Office of Professional Regulation. Vermont’s 2002 practice act did not include hearing aid dispensers.
