The National Council of State Boards of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (NCSB) would like to share an update on the operational status of the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC) with both its member states and non-member states. First, we’d like to share some background information and clarify information about the ASLP-IC.
Background
Since 2018, NCSB has been in full support of states passing legislation to adopt the ASLP-IC. The ASLP-IC will promote consumer protection by allowing a pathway by which audiologists and speech-language pathologists can obtain the authorization to practice in states where they do not hold a license.
Clarification
- The ASLP-IC recognizes the licensure requirements of the home state; and
- The ASLP-IC does not require a licensee to hold certification issued by any national professional association in order to obtain authorization to practice across state lines in states that are members of the compact
Update of Operational Status
The ASLP-IC Commission is currently engaged with a developer to build the database system that compact member states will utilize to process applications. We anticipate the ASLP-IC Commission will be begin accepting applications by June 2025.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the ASLP-IC Commission by visiting their website and completing the contact us form at: https://aslpcompact.com/contact-us/. You may also contact NCSB at the contact information listed above.
Sincerely,
NCSB Board of Directors
